💭 Essential Question: How do geography and human decisions shape relationships between people and places?
Unit 2: History and Political Geography focuses on how geography influences relationships between people and places. Students explore how maps, borders, and human decisions shape the world around them. Beginning with an investigation of mapmaking and geographic representation, students then examine the creation and impact of political borders, including the role of colonialism in reshaping regions around the world. Finally, students analyze how geography can lead to both cooperation and conflict through case studies involving territorial disputes, shared resources, and international partnerships. Throughout the unit, students develop the disciplinary skill of geographic relationships, analyzing how connections between people, places, and environments influence societies over time.
