Unit 5 - Migration

About Unit 5

💭 Essential Question: How do environmental, economic, and social factors influence migration?

The Unit 5: Migration focuses on why people move and how migration shapes societies around the world. Students explore push and pull factors, beginning with an introduction to migration and the African diaspora as an example of how movement connects cultures over time. Students then examine regional case studies in Africa, Asia, Oceania, and the Americas to analyze how different forces influence migration patterns and decisions. Through document analysis, data interpretation, and comparison, students build explanations for where people move and why. The unit culminates in a children’s book project, where students synthesize their learning to explain the causes and impacts of migration. Throughout the unit, students develop the disciplinary skill of causation, analyzing how multiple forces shape migration and its effects on people and places.
